(PaESS ASSOCIATION" TELEGRAMS.) AUCKLAND. June 6. At the Supreme Court criminal sessions, Win. McCarthy for horse stealing at Opotiki, was sentenced to twelve months' imprisonment. His Honour tnen called two N-tive witnesses who had given evidence for the deience, and addressing them through an interpreter, said, " I have sent for you two witnesses to s.vy a few words to you. You have sworn to-day that which I am sure the jury do not believe ; you hive knowingly sworn falsely to get your friends off if you could. For this you are liable to be proceeded against for false swearing, but I do not know whether it is intended to take any proceedings in this case." Eruest Wright for larceny and endorsing and uttering cheques was sentenced to eighteen months. WELLINGTON, June 6. In the Supreme Court Michael Knight, for false pretences, waa seuteuced to four months' imprisonment. Frederick Maryott, for theft of jewedery, received six mouths. Thomas Edward M I itosh, late guard on the Wellington-M&uawatu Railway, charged with firing a revolver at Mutu Aperahama, at Paikakariki, waa acquitted. DUNEDIN, June 6 Bail was fixed in Bern a case, accused's recognizvuee for £200 and two sureties for a like amount.
