MIDLAND RAILWAY.
Mr W. R. Haselden, solicitor, left Wellington for Westport on Saturday, under instructions Irom the Crown Solicitor in the Midland Railway Arbitration case. A SENSATIONAL ROBBERY. The Native meeting at Maungakarua is tow over. It ended in a rather sensational manner by the exchequer being robbed of £178. Rawhiti, editor of the Maori paper, n»d that amount in gold together with £50 in notes in a strong box, which was broken open. The gold was extracted and the notes were left. LOCAL GOVERNMENT BILL. A deputation from the Counties Association waited on the Premier yesterday, and M-tca to be allowed to have an advanced copy of the Local Government Bill. FROZEN MEAT EXPORT. At the Wanganui Borough Council Cham- ■*-» r * s yesterday a large and enthusiastic Meeting of settlers from all parts of the «.strict assembled to hear an address from Mr D. J. Nathan on his scheme for the improvement of the frozen meat trade.
