Mr Mackay, of the Labour Bureau here, left for Lyttelton to arrange for wharf labour there, tho management of which the Labour Department has undertaken on behalf of the Railway Department. The .Government has authorised the expenditure of £6000 on wharf accommodation at Port Chalmers, in order to provide for the berthing of direct steamers there. The Ne» Zealand 'JSmss has been served with a writ for £500 damages by Mr Bodman, a tradesman of Pahi&tna. The plaintiff paid an account to the Times, but owing to some blunder he was sued for it in Court and hence tbe claim.
