POSTAL CONFERENCE.

Pender has cabled to the Postal Conference that he does not see why the Eastern Extension Company should accept the conditions oftered on the basis of a one-year's agreement and suggests that the term should be longer. Hobabt, February 6. At the Postal Conference, on the motion of Sir J. Forrest (Western Australia) new mail contracts were made for two years, and hence Fremantle will be the first port of call. This being agreed to, ihe Conference then went into Committee to consider Sh- J. Pender's reply to the Hon. Mr Word's motion, and adjourned the question until to-morrow. In connection with the mail contract the Conference affirmed the employment of white instead of coloured labour. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, February 6. The proposals brought before the Postal Conference respecting the Pacific mail service were to-day considered by the Cabinet aud approved. The question of amending the Inland postage rates in New Zealand was before the Government and postponed.
