As hnirdrcssors they hid to close on Wednesday aud open on Saturday and as tobacconists they had to close on Saturday. They would thus havo to clo3o on two days, bnt as a proprietor would be there all the time he would get no half-holi-day, Mr Cole said he had seen Inspector Ferguison on the subject, and he had telegiaphedto the Hon. Mrßeeves, who replied that if the hairdressers and tobacconists could not agree to close on Saturday they must put up barricades and close the tobacco business on Saturday and the hairdressers' business on Wednesday. If thoy asked the Government the hairdressers' holiday could be changed to Saturday by an Order in Council.
