WAIMAKARIRI HARBOUR BOARD.

At a special meeting of this Board, held at the Kaiapoi Municipal Chambers, on Monday, there were present — Messrs R. Evans (Chairman), W. P&rnham, E. Feldwick, F. Horrell, R. H. Mathews, M. E. Hiatt and R. Hopkins.

The annual accounts audited were read. The receipts for rents, dues, &c, were, with balance of £28 from last year, £357 15s 2d. The payments were—Office £31175, signalman and station £101 2s 3d, dredging and clearing £13 4d, lawsuit £71 17s, transfer to interest £37856 d, balance is hand December, 1894, £10112s. The assets were (including land £1600), £2163 8s; liabilities, including debentures and debts, 4972; balance of assets over liabilities, £1686 Bs.

The accounts were adopted and passed. An ordinary meeting was also held. Letters were read—From the Publio Trual Offioe, acknowledging appointment to take charge of sinking fund, and asking for further information. Ordered to be furnished. From the Marine Board, statiog £85 was available, and wanting to know what works it was to be applied to. The Works Committee reported on works costing £109, including oleaning of weeds and erection of groynes to shoot the rivei towards the wharves in use. The report wat adopted. From the Marine Department, stating the Board of Trade required information as to licensing of pilots, and atatinf pilots would require to pass in colour teau and examination for mates and masters The Signalman reported a spit formed in th« channel. The deep water fronVSait Water Creek to the bar was towards the north, the bar was shifting southward. Complaints were made of peraone sending weeds down the river. On the 26th the Huon Belle going out stranded on the South Spit) dug was safely got off next tide. The credit balance was £3111s 6d. Accounts £17 Oβ 7d were passed for payment. - It was resolved the dredge be caulked and tarred. It was decided to ask Mr. Butt, who had removed to Cheviot, if he wished to retain his seat on' the Board, having now been absent from several meetings. Mr Evani announced his intention to retire from the Board, and a vote of thanks was passed to him for hia assiduous cervices in the interests of the Board. Xhe meeting thep adjourned. - . :
