DEHORNING.

' SO THE EDITOR 07 188 PRESS. Bia,r-It appears from your report ia Saturday's issue that the Society for the Prevention of . Cruelty to Animals are moving in the direction of obtaining legislative interference in the dehoroing of . cattle, so as to ensure its being done as exseditiously and as painlessly as possible. This if certainly a move in the right direction. Having watched both the manner of doing the work and also observed its effects on the cattle daring the tpast five years, I have . arrived at the conclusion that all 'horned cattle ought, fur the good of themselves, their owners, and all concerned, to be dehorned without any delay whatever. How very often the newspapers- have to record the death of some poor fellow or other who met his death by being gored by a bull. There have been some fearful accidents thiough horned: battle, all of which might have been prevented by five minutes , work, with a small saw. I . have witnessed the good results from the dehorning many of the dairy herds. On the Peninsula the cows are much quieter, keep their condition better, and consequently milk better. They can be mixed after separation without the dread of injury through fighting (horned cattle always fight - strangers). Allow mc to say in conclusion that dehorning cattle in its results is one of the most humane acts ever brought into practice. Horns are absolutely useless on cattle in a domestic state, and I for one shall hail with pleasure the interference of the Legislature in making dehorning cornpotaory.—Sfours, Ac., /
