Williams has resumed, his position in connection with the bankruptcy proceedings of companies in the Queen's Bghch Division of the High Court of Justice. SENTENCED TO DEATH. Brussels, February 8. Madame Joniaux has been sentenced to death for poisoning a number of her relatives. ■ • ... February 4. Madame Joniaux* trial occupied twenty-one days. On the Judge pronouncing sentence of death the unfortunate woman fainted. The sentence was greeted with frantic joy, and cries of " Lynch her." A fierce debate took place in the Chamber of Deputies yesterday, the Government being violently attacked over a contract given to an English I fihn for'the transport of War v material to Madagascar. Though 600,000 francs (£24,000) were saved by it, the Socialists and Protectionists were loud with abusive epithets against England. A SOCIALIST DEMONSTRATION. February 4. M. Bochefort received a tremendous ovation on his arrival in the city. Fifty thousand Socialists met him at the station, and he was greeted with frantic cheers. News has been received that French troops have occupied Mojanga, the chief port on the north-west coast of Madagascar.
