LANCASTER PARK v MIDLAND. One of the finest finishes that has been seen for many a day waa witnessed at Lancaster Park on Saturday, when the Lancastrians defeated the hitherto unbeaten Midlanders by 11 rune. A large number of spectators watched tho play, which was full of interest and uncertainty. Mrs Wilding dispensed afternoon " iWith seven wickets down for 38, the Park resumed With Wilding and his skipper. Sotii men soon got the measure of the bowling, , and 49 wero added before Caff was bpwleii.affccr playing a most serviceable and hard hit innings .for 80. .Lafferty knocked up }1 quickly, with some luck, and the' inning* shortly after closed for 150.: Wilding was again unbeaten with 14 to hia: credit. Pearca bowled exceedingly well, an>l tho fielding was firat class. ; Requiring 191 to win the M.C.C. started; with Pearje and Aehby. The veteran left at 3. Wheatley made a dozen quickly, and then gave way to Lawrence. Ac 38 Pearce put one up at point. Lawrence and Reece made . a short stand, but at 69 Reese was smartly taken at the wicket.' 20 runs later Lawrence left after playing sound crickoc for 30. ftlacdonald and White then became associated, and as both men settled down to sound and vigorous cricket the Lopes of the Blue and White wero raised-again. At 117 bad judgment on Macdonald's part ran AVhite out, tho latter having made 27 by a Hue display, of batting. • Treweek left at> i 130, and the end seemed near. However, I Ogier stonewalled, whilo Macdonald . piled the runs on. With 13 short of tho required number Ogier was smartly stumped, and the Lancastrians and their supporters breathed' again. Schmoll was quite at sea to De;Maus, and soon put ono up at point, which C Ridley just reached. Robertson scored a single, and then Caff put an end to the suspense by clean bowling him. Macdonald was loudly applauded on his return, and well be deserved it, for a better sample of clean and vigorous hitting has seldom been seen on the Park. Gunthorpe trundled Very steadily, |but had not the best of Inck, DeMaus also was very steady until Macdonald went out to him. With one or two exceptions the fielding was first-class, Cuff in particular putting in splendid work. The . follow.ng are the Ecores :— LANCASTER FARE. First innings ... -. „ 203 Second Innings. A.
