WELLINGTON NOTES.

(By Telkouapu). [FHO.U OUR CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON, February 3. I learn on excellent authority that the Acting General Manager of the Bank of Now Zealand baa left for London via Sydney. So little was known of his intended departure that it seems: fair to assume that it was desired that the intention should not be kaown. As giving colour to this view, I may say that, though 1 was told some days ago that Mr Andrews had left for London, it was at the same time intimated to me that I could not use thu information. Yesterday, however, it was freely discussed in various quarters, and is naturally the subject ot much comment and speculation. That Mr Andrews, who of all the officers of the Bank apparently most commands the respect and confidence of the shareholders, besides holding the highest office in the service after that of the newly created Presideut, should be sent to Londou upon the eve of the general meeting of shareholders seems remarkable to most of those whom I have heard discuse it. It is suggested, in one quarter, that this latest fiuancial departure bears upon the secret mission of the Treasurer, and that, therefore, time is an object. In another direction the opinion has been paraded that Mr Andrews is not wanted at the general meeting, and that, as in the case of the Treasurer, excellent reasons will be forthcoming at the proper time for hia visit to Eugland. No doubt questions will be asked presently, even by *• the man in the street,' , who. as a taxpayer, is waking up to the fact that he has incurred a contributory liability to the Bank of New Zealand under the two million guarantee. Y our readers are familiar with the part that was to be played as vendors by Nelson Bro3. Limited, according to the programme of the great Valentine Produce Distribution Company, Limited. That great commercial performance has been postponed, possibly until the services of a more talsn ted principal cau be secured for the first representative. Be thi3 as it may, it is worthy of note, and I believe it is true, that Mr William Nelson, the enterprising and talented representative of the firm in this colony, will leave for London in the couise of a few days. in should prove of great advantage to the Colonial Treasurer when,in London to find that if necessary he can avail himsolf of the ripe experience of Messrs Andrews and Nelson upon subjects affecting the financial or producing interests of the colony.
