CONCERNING WHEAT.
An investigation has been eat on foot to discover an alleged trade in the Government crop reports made by the United States Agricultural Bureau at Washington. It ia charged that the monthly crop reports compiled by the statistician of this bureau are stolen or sold, and made use of by operators in the market in advanco ot their official publication. For years certain operators have had suspiciously accurate information concerning the Department's esti- i mate of the acreage and condition of the crops of bkth corn and wheat, and it often happens that the information is a convenient thing to have a day or ( two ahead of the other fellows on the Grain Bourse. Oα one occasion Secretary Morton inquired of hia statistician tho condition of wheat, and was told 102. The Secretary then pulled out a telegram received from New York the same morning, which read—" Your wheat report to-day will show the condition 102." This and similar facts have led to an attempt to fiud out the leak.
