Preu Association— By Telegraph—Copyright NEWSOUTH WALES ANNIVERSARY. Sydney, January 26. To day is the anniversary of the colony, and it is being celebrated as a general holiday. The weather for the anniversary was wet, though the regatta was a great success. The intercolonial IS-footer sailing race was won by the Ariel, of Sydney, defeating Queensland. The latter's representative, the Bulletin, won the champion 22-footer race. VIOLENT THUNDERSTORM. During a violent thunderstorm at Murrumburrah, nine out of a team of eighteen cattle were killed by lightning. The drovers had a narrow esoape. A LECTURING TOUR. Melbourne, January 26. The Rev. H. R. Haweis, who is at present iv San Francisco, visits the colonies in March on a lecturing tour. PRIMAGE DUTY REPEAL, The Government intend to re-intro-duce a Primage Duty Repeal Bill next session. If carried, it will operate in June. THE LAND TAX. January 27. Speaking at the Australasian Natives demonstration, the Attorney-General referred to the rejection of the land tax by the Legislative Council, and said the people of the colony would not allow the most valuable portiou of the wealth of the colony to go uutaxed. The Bill, he said, would be introduced, aa there must be some change of the Constitution. QUEENSLAND COMMERCE. Brisbane, January 27. The importß for the year are of the value of £4,241,000, being an increase of £8000 on the previous year. The exports were of the value <of £8,336,000, a decrease of £587,000. COOLGARDIE MINING. Perth, January 26. Fine stone has been etriiok in Bayley's Reward mine, Coolgardie, while prospecting in the north main shaft. Alluvial gold also has been found in Bay ley's Island, it being discovered in a kind of cement under some 7ft of difficult stripping. DESTRUCTIVE FIRE. Hobart, January 26. A destructive fire broke out ac Port Arthur during a gale. The public buildings, Model Prison, Governmenthouse, the Hospital and several private houses were ' "■'■
