The weekly returns of the Bank of Euglspd published to-day show the , total reserve to be £27,142,000, and the proportion of reserve to liabilities 65.74. * Consols 105§. Three months bills' are discounted at |- per cent. New South Wales Four per Cents, 109; Three and a Half ditto, 101£. Viutorian Four per Cents, 102£: Three and a Half ditto, 9ty. South Australian Four per Cenas, IU7 ; Three and a Half dit'o, 101£. Queensland Four per Cents, 106; Three and a Half ditto, 99. Tasmanian Three and a Half per Cents, 99. West Australian Four per Cents, 112. New Zealand Four per Cent Inscribed, 107; Three and a Half ditto, 101}. New Zealand long berried wheat, ex warehouse, 255, nominal; South Australian wheat, ex warehouse, 26a 6d; Victoria ditto, also weaker, 265, New Zealand frozen meat depressed y second quality, 3£ d per lb; lamb sd, nominal. -v ' The cheese by the Gothic was landed in excellent condition. The market, however, is dull. The New Zealand hemp market is unchanged. Sugar, German beet, 9a If d $ Java, steady, 11s 6d. No. 1 best Scotch pig iron, f.0.b., in Clyde, 41s 7£d. Silver is quoted at 2s 3 7-lGths penny per oz. " * At the sales of scoured wools they were ejlow of sale, with prices weaker. Sydney, January 26. During the week 34,000 bales of wool were catalogued at the looal sales, of which 26,000 were sold. The current prices are greasy, 6£d to 7£d ; washed, 8d to 10d j scoured, lid to 14£ d. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, have received the following London cable message, dated Janpary 18th:— Woo? —The American demand has increased. • Tallow—There is a rather better demand. Good beef has declined 9d per owe since last report. (Latest quotation was 21& 6 d). Butter-—Market quiet. Fine qualities New Zealand are worth 98s to 102s per cwt. (Laab quotation was 96s to 100s). The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, has received the -following cable message, dated London, 22nd January, 1895. Wool—Since close of /last sales greasy merino super, is par to £d per lb higher, while the following descriptions show a decline as under:— Combing washed, Id per lb; scoured merino super., greasy merino medium and inferior, fine greasy crossbred, medium greasy crossbred, coarse greasy cro&bred, par to £d per lb; greasy merino, medium and inferior, scoured merino, medium and inferior, fine washed crossbred, fine scoured ciossbred, medium washed crossbred, medium scoured crossbred, coarse scoured crossbred, coarse washed crossbred, \d per lb; other descriptions unchanged. Competition by both Home and foreign buyers is fairly active. The total quantity catalogued to date is 61,000 bales, while the quantity with* drawn amounts to 7500 bales. Wheat—Market Is weak. Spot quotations have declined 3d per 4961b since last report. (Last quotations were 24s 3d and 25s 3d for average and long berried, per 4961b, respectively.) jr . . Rabbit Skins-—There is a good comparative demand, and best descriptions have advanced fd since last report.
