LYTTELTON REGATTA,IB9S.
The final meeting of the Committee of the above regatta was held in the Council Chambers on Thursday evening. There was a large attendance. .The Hon. Treasurer reported that the entries, which had just olosed, had been very satisfactory,'all the events having filled up well; The Club rowing races had filled up particularly well, there being six entries, in the two single sculling races, five in in each or the maiden and • junior events, while the senior sculls and pairs had brought out four and three contestants respectively. Nine yachts had entered for the yacht raoe, and six iv the class for one raters. Four crafts had entered for the fishing boats race, and one coaster had entered for the schooners' race, with probably more tc follow, as post entries would be received. It was reported that Captain Falconer had arranged to conduct the sub-marine explo sion, which on this occasion will take place inside the moled, and is expected to prove a most attractive spectacle. .Sir Arthur Douglas wrote, stating -that the torpedo boat -would be at the disposal of the Committee* on regatta day, and ,it was - decided ■to thank him for his 'kindness in. getting the 'boat"out./ All the events on the swimming programme have filled up well, and this part ef the carnival bids fair to' provide some' excellent sport. The Fire Brigade Committee reported that complete arrangements are being made by the Lyttelton Fire Brigade to. provide a highly successful display.. . After transact* ing .some further .routine business the Committee adjourned till' New . Year** morning. . ~ '. . ,
