HEATHCOTE.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Heathcote Road Board was held on Thursday, the 4th inst. Present—Mr jsfcHaffie (acting Chairman), and Messrs Malcolm, Wiffen and Mitchell. An apology was received from the Chairman for non-attend-ance. Correspondence was read—From the Selwyn County Council, giving the Board notice that it would be necessary for the Board to make its own triennial valuation ; also, enclosing a circular from the Commissioner of Taxes, asking it the Board would supply his department with the unimproved rateable value of the district. It was resolved—" That the district be rated under the Rating Act, 1832, and that the Land Tax Department be invited to contribute half the cost of the valuing of the district." From the Drainage Board, asking the amount of drainage rates the Board held in hand. It was resolved— "That the information asked for be forwarded with a cheque for rates." From the Sydenham Borough Council, informing the Board that under the Public Works Act they intended to proceed with the construction of Tennyson street, this being a boundary road between the borough and road district. As the road is only a bye one and the 8 mount of mosey proposed to be expended £250, the Works Committee decided to ask the Sydenham Council to reconsider the question. From the Halswell Road Board, appointing a meeting of delegates to examine Dyer's Pass Road. Mr Malcolm reported that, with the Clerk, he had met the Halswell members, and that it had been decided to ask the County Council to assist with a grant to put the road in order, as it was practically a main road. Mr Mitchell moved— " That Btep* be taken to dispose of the Board's entire interest in Rocky point quarry." After a full discussion, in which every member took part, it was decided to obtain a legal opinion as to 7 the Board's position under the piesent lease before proceeding further. The Works Committee authorised works to be put in hand in Avon, St. Martin's, and Valley wards. The Finance Committee reported the receipts since last meeting as £185; accounts amounting to £212 were passed for payment. Afcer a vote of thanks lo the acting Chairman, the meeting closed.
