A CHANGE IN THE GOVERNMENT.

(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, December 13. Important changes took place in tbe Tongan Government on the 24th November. The King summarily dismissed Tuakuaho, the Premier ; Mr A. M. Campbell, Collector ofCaatoms; and Mr Smart, clerk, from their respective offices. It is alleged that Mr Campbell waa treated very shabbily, the keys of office being demanded without a moments' notice. Considerable excitement Srevailed. Sateki, an important chief aud rm friend of the Rev. Shirley Baker, was appointed Premier. Mr W. Campbell, Collector of Customs at Vavau, was transferred to Tongatabu. Mr Whitcombe was appointed Clerk to the Premier. A general wish was expressed that the Rev. Mr Baker would return to Tonga. The excitement had subsided when the Upolu left. The Rev. Baker, who was interviewed, said that the change in the Tongan Ministry will be very popular with both Europeans aad Natives. He. is of opinion that the country will be more prosperous.
