SPRINGS.
The ordinary meeting of this Board was held on Tuesday, September 26th inst. Present—Messrs J. A. Pannett (Chairman), Wills, Woodward and Wolfe. Correspondence was read from Mr J. P. Herrick with reference to a culvert across the Halswell road. The Clerk was instructed to attend to the same. Rolleston School Committee asking for screenings to be put on footpath at Rolleston. The matter was deferred for inspection. Mr Joseph Palmer asking the Board to clean the drain on Swamp road opposite section No. 8184. The Board not having cleaned the drain previously saw no reason to do so at present. Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, forwarding list of recipients of charitable aid, also asking particulars of a case of distress reported in the district, which was left for the Chairman to deal with. Selwyn County Council, in answer to correspondence with reference to open crossings at Rolleston. Bank of New Zealand, Christchurch, advising that the sum of £19 9s lid had been paid into the Board's account from Paymaster-General, Wellington, being balance of subsidy on rates for year ending 31st March, 1893. Mr H. Boyle waited on the Board asking for an extension of the lease of Reserve No. 2653 to the expiration of the lease of Reserve No. 2654. Granted. A similar request was made by Mr D. Knight in respect of Reserve No. 215, leased by him, which was extended for a further term of seven years. Mr James Corbett interviewed the Board, asking that the continuation of Chamberlain's road be opened to give access to his section in the river bed ; also that the Brookside road be formed from Burnham road to Rolleston. Both cases were referred to the Clerk to inspect and report ou at the next meeting. The Overseer's report was read and considered, and it was decided to re-form 18 chains in addition to the preseut formation on Collins' road, also to continue the reformation of Waterholes road to the boundary. With reference to the gorse nuisance, the Clerk was instructed to inform them that had notices sent that if the work was not proceeded with more satisfactorily the Board would take the matter in hand. The finance report was read, showing receipts for the- past month to be £194 5s 4_d; credit balance at Bank of New Zealand £429 10s lid. After dealing with other unimportant matters, accounts amounting to £122 15s were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned till October 31st, 1893.
