CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

,*, The monthly meeting of the Committee of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday afternoon. A letter was received from the Premier's office, Wellington, acknowledging the receipt of the Chamber's letter of August 28th, on the | subject of Intercolonial Freetrade, and in reply to which stated that the Government was favourably disposed towards Intercolonial Reciprocity. The Canterbury Frozen Meat Company wrote agreeing with the Invercargill Chamber that the branding of frozen meat would give the trade a very severe check. The Sub-Committee appointed to enquire into the scheme propounded by the Wellington Chamber of Commerce for the formation of an Accountants' Institute, brought up its report, which was adopted without comment, and a suggestion that the name of the proposed Institute should be altered to read " Institute of Accountants of New Zea- ! land, Incorporated." The Ckirmriittee then i elected four members by ballot, as under :— ! Messrs A. M. Ollivier, J. Henderson, A. A. !M. McKellar, and F. Waymouth. In j accordance with the resolutions passed at J the Wellington conference to form part of : the proposed Institute, the following gentlemen were nominated by the Committee to act with the four accountants for the purpose of dealing with local applications for firstmembers;iip:—Messrs Chrystall, Meares, ; Humphreys and Edwards. The draft of the report was submitted and adopted. After disposing of a large quantity of routine business, the meeting adjourned.
