WAIMAKARIRI HARBOUR DUES.
TO THB EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir,—At the next meeting of the Waimakariri Harbour Board a proposal is to be made to levy dues on vessel* trading toKaiapoL Oα a fifty*ton vessel making a dozea trips, with fall inward and outward cargoes, the annnal does, at proposed rate, would be £10; a similar vessel trading to Lyttelton is charged Harbour dues at onequarter of that amount per annum. A comparison of the manner in which the duties of the Harbour Boards of the respective ports is carried out, and the conveniences provided for shipping is very much in favour of Lyttelton. It is surprising that such a proposal should have been brought forward, the object of which can only be to exact a preposterous impost from those, who at the risk ot making an uncertain profit, are assisting to promote the trade of the town. —Yours, &c, A Kaiapohl&n , *
