LICENSING COMMITTEES.
CHRISTCHURCH SOUTH-EAS* The quarterly meeting of tho Licensing Committee for" tho South-cast Ward wa» held at noon yesterday. Present—Messrs R. Westem-a (in the chair), J. V. Ross, C. P. Hulbert, and J. P. Jameson. Mr Loughrey applied under Section 37, on behalf of Messrs Arenas and J- Ash ton. for the extension of their licenses to 11 p-W. These had been curtailed to 10 p.m. owing to endorsements for Sunday, trading. Mr Loughrey pointed out that both cases were of a very venial character, he trusted that the Committee would see their way t# grant the application. Mr P. Burke, of Burkes Hotel, and Mrs Annie Hall, of the Eastern, made similar applications. The Chairman said the Committee had determined to grant the extensions asked for iv each case until 11 p.ni., to date from the Ist October next. The police report on the district wa3 read, and was satisfactory. The Committee then adjourned.
