In the Legislative Council yesterday the Gisborne High School Act Further Amendment Bill n_s read a first time, and referred to the Local Bills Committee. A Select Committee was appointed to consider all the Labour Bills introduced." The Oamaru Loans Consolidation Bill was. read a first time, aud a technical amendment made in the Payment of Members Bill. The Otago Harbour Board Empowering Bill was referred back to the Select Committee. The Sale of Poisons Bill and the Arsenic and Cyanide of Potassium Bill passed through Committee. The Mining Act Amendment. Bill was read a second time and referred to the Goldfields and Mines Committee. The Timber Floating Act Amendment Bill was re-committed and reported.

In the House of Representatives yesterday a number of Bills-, were reaSi a first time. A motion by Mr Buckland dealing with the rabbit pest provoked a long discussion, which was only put a stop to by the 5.30 pan. adjournment. At the evening sitting Messrs McGowan and Cadman, recently elected for the Thames and Auckland vacancies, were sworn in and took their seats. Sir R. Stout's Licensing Act, 1881, Amendment Bill, was committed after a debate, and a motion to report progress, proposed by the Premier, was carried by the narrow majority of 2, the figures being 30 to 2a Sir John Hall then moved the second reading of his Women's Suffrage Bill, which, after debate, was assented to by 30 to 3.
