GENERAL ASSEMBLY.
At the afternoon sitting of the House of Representatives further leave of absence for a week was granted to Sir George Grey on account of illness. Questions and a set-to between Mr Fish and Sir R. Stout on the subject of the Fernhill railway, took up some time. Mr Barata resumed the debate on the Financial Statement; Mr Seddon and Mr Rolleston had the evening sitting to themselves. The Premier spoke for three hours and defended everything the Government had done or meant to do. The leader of the Opposition then spoke until after one o'clock, and scored heavily off Mr Seddon, attacking the Government policy with great vigour.
