. Monday, May 15. (Before H. W. Bishop, Esq., R.M., and J. L., Wilson, Esq., J. P.) Cruei/ty ,to a Posy.— J. Bradley, on remand, was charged by the police with torturing a pony by haviuif driven itr eighteen miles with a bad sore on the shoulder. Mr Hoban, who appeared for the Society lor the Prevention of Cruelty to Animala, pressed for an exemplary penalty. The defendant admitted the offence, bub said the pony h&d made the pore look worse by biting it. The Resident Magistrate after stating that there were other sores on the pony aud the collar used was quite unfit for it, said that he was induced to indict a smaller tine than he might have done on account of the offence being exceptional for the district.. A fine of £2 with costs, £3 15s altogether, was inflicted, in default a. month's imprisonment. The fine was paid.
Civil Cask.—ln Mrs E. Fisher v E. Capil, £7 14s 6d, Mr Hoban for plaintiff, the Resident Magistrate said the service of summons was null and void, and a new summons would issue. Coats were not granted.
