Saturday, May 13. . v (Before J. G, Fyfe and G. Laurenson, Esqs., J.P.'s.) Larceny.—John Gubbins, a sailor on the barque North, was charged with the larceny of wearing apparel, of the value of 40s, the property of J. T. Brice, Lyttelton. Accused denied the charge. The evidence went to show that the clothes were displayed outside the shop of Mr J. T. Brice and were taken by the accused. After hearing the evidence of Captain Fish, of the barque North, Captain Owen, of the Sailors' Home, Mr J. T. Brice, Sergeant O'Malley, and the arresting constable, G. Fitzgerald, the Bench inflicted a fine of £5, or -in default two months' imprisonment; -•' •*-■ Resisting the PolicA—-The same defendant was also charged with xesistinir the police. The evidence,of Sergeant O'Malley and Constable Fitzgerald Bhowed that when arrested, on the charge of larceny, accused resisted most violently, and created a great disturbance in the street. He was fined 10s, or' in default forty-eight hours' imprisonment.
