FIRES.

HAWEKA, May 15. Yesterday morning, between five and six o'clock, the Royal Hotel, owned by Reuben Morriah, and occupied by Emily Clark, was burned to the ground. Little or nothing was saved. The fire had a strong hold when discovered. It is supposed to have originated in the sitting-room. The building was insured for £500 in the South British, and the stock and furniture for £400 in the Commercial.
WELLINGTON, May 15.
A fire occurred in Smart's stables at the Lower Uutt yesterday, by which three hack racers, Traitress, Heath and Donald Dinnie, were burned to death. There was only a boy sleeping on the premises and the origin is unknown.
