(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, May I_. A meeting of the Council of the Chamber of Commerce was held to-day to consider the report of the Committee appointed to submit a scheme for creating an Association of Accountants for the whole colony. The report as submitted was adopted. It recommends that the name of the Society be the Institute of Incorporated Accountants in New Zealand, and that it be registered under the special provisions of the Companies' Act, applicable to such an Association. The object of the Society is the elevation of the status of the profession by the establishment of a high standard of professional knowledge, &c. The report further recommends the organisation of the Society by the Councils of the Chamber of Commerce iv the principal centres in the colony, and makes detailed suggestions to that end. Provision is made for certain powers and duties to devolve on the whole Association thus constituted, and that the Association shall thereafter proceed to eleot a provincial governing body to frame by-laws providing for the election of officers and central and local governing bodies and for other specified matters, including an application for incorporation. Tho scheme is to be submitted to all the Chambers of Commerce in the colony.
