THE CIRCUS.
Yesterday afternoon, at the invitation of Mr Fillis, the boys of the Burnham School, headed by their brass band, attended the matinee performance of the Circus. There was also a large attendance both of young and old, and the performance went throughout with a great deal of spirit In the evening the tent was again well filled, and a very attractive programme was presented. Mr Fillis introduced his clever little pony Dolly, who went through a very excellent performance. Madame Fillis introduced her trained Arab, aud showed to what an extent the training of a horse can be carried. One of the prettiest acts which has been given during the season was that of Mr and Madame Fillis, "EI Bolero Espagnol," in which the horses as well as the riders were exceedingly clever. The other portions of the programme were gone through successfully. To-day and this evening will be the last two performances of the cirous in Christchurch, and Mr Fillis has arranged a splendid programme. In the afternoon both the tiger and the lions will be exhibited, and Mr Fillis will appear in his successful military act. To-night this will be repeated and in addition an amateur riding contest will take place for a valuable silver watch. Weather permitting a procession will leave the circus at noon and parade the principal streets.
The Company leave on Monday for Wellington, where they commence their season on Tuesday next.
