MEETINGS OF CREDITORS.

The first meeting of creditors in the estate of Geo. Gorrie, farming ooutmotor, Saltwater Creek, was held yesterday at the office of the Official Assignee. Mr T. G, Russell appeared for the bankrupt, whose statement showed a» under:—Unsecured creditors, £1225 2s 2d ; scoured, £22 10a» lose estimated value of securities, £22 lOe. Assets—Book debts, £50; furniture £10 1 total, £60 j deficienoy, £1165 2a SJd. The chief creditors wore: —D. Gorde (tieftou), £849 33 2d ; Colonial Bank of New Zealand, £320; T. McNaugut (Amberloy), £17 13» 2d ; J. Barclay (Sefton), £19 6i 9d ; Reid and Gray, £8 18a 8d j T. McNaught further put in a claim for £35 odd ou a pcomJeeory note. Secured creditors—Colonial Bunk of New Zealand, Rangiora, amount of debt on Ist March, 1893, was £520, and siuoe that date the Bank had sold horses and forming plftut and the debtor had not been Informed what amount the sale realised. He etltiinated th* proceeds of the Bale at £175, leaving £345, amount of debt for which the Bunk aad no security except a lien over grain valued at £25. The Bank was consequently unsecured for £320. The Buckeye Harvester Com* pany, Limited, Duuediu, secured by bailment over one harvester valued at £22 10s. Amount of debt, £22 10* The property consisted of old ploughs and harrows, valuutl at £10. The debtor stated that he woe compeUeo to file because tho Bank pressed him, uud he further got jnto difficulties through failtir* of crops. Though farming 300 acres, he oulv regularly worked 100 acres, which he Hβ sold ten pige for 14s each to hie brother. Hugh, a month or six weeks ago. Hβ had not sold chaff of any bort, nor had lie sold or got rid of cows for at leant ft year. Hβ cold a daisy cart first some two or three month* ago for £12. He had posseseed a Vanguard cqit, rising five years, which was eecuved t*. the Bank under bill of sale. That colt wm dead, haviiig been shot because its log WM broken.
The Official Assignee said he asked these questions because it was asserted that it we* another, and not the Vanguard colt wbioh was destroyed. Witnese continued that he could not ear if the colt was shot by Mr Barclay. He had no horse at present ruuning ftt Mr David Gorrie's. Five cows went over to < his brother's place. They belonged to hit brother. The Vanguard colt was not ruining in hie brother's paddock last Friday. It had not been in any paddock WJW» H broke its leg and was shot. He denied having said' nasty things about Messrs Fulton and McNaught, or having *peafc money freely at the Sefton HoteT en** his bankruptcy. *r After evidence hod been given by J»* Fulton, of the Rangiora Branch of tW Colonial Bank, the meeting adjournea sine die.. '
