ASHBURTON AUTUMN MEETING.
The Ashburton Autumn Meeting commences to-day. The following are " Hotspur's " selections:— Hurdle Race— Magpie. Ashburton Stakes—■ Saracen. Netherby High-weight—Aquarius. Autumn Handicap—Lord Zetland 1, Crown Jewel or Retina 2. Novel Race—-Jack. District Race—Frivolity/. Flying Handicap—Lady Zetland.
The Canterbury Trotting Club at a meeting held on Monday night decided to have layers of totalisator odds removed from their grounds, and tickets of admission to the course will only be subject: to the rules. There are to be three feotallsators, one for £1 and two for 10s investments, on the ground. The acceptances for the meeting close to-morrow, Thursday. On Tuesday morning an Interesting match over a mile and a-half, with eight flights of hurdles, was held at Amberley. The competitors were Mr R. Parsonson bi-j bin Queenie, und Mr Cox on a bay gelding. The latter went away with a good lead as Queenie baulked and seemed bound to win when his horse shied round the hurdle, allowing the mare to get up and win by a short distance. The Egmont Racing Club's winter meeting takes place to-day, and the following are suggested asprobable winners of the chief events :—Egmont Handicap Steeplechase, Shillelagh with Iroquois and Kingrose dangerous ; Hurdle Handicap, Couranto; Tiial Steeplechase*.
