SOUTH RAKAIA.
The monthly meeting of the South Rakaia Road Board was held on May 4th. Present—Messrs Lyttelton, Coster, Stnngfellow, Richards and Lambie. The Returning Officer reported that Messrs E. S. Coster and J. Lambie bad been declared duly elected to the vacant seats. On the motion of Mr Coster, seconded by Mr Lambie, Mr \V. M. Lyttelton was re-elected Chairman for the year. It was resolved that the water races through the Board's property be cleaned while the water is shut ofL The request of Mrs Street to have a bridge put over the water race in front of her house was granted ; also that the hole in Morrow's road be filled up. It was resolved that tenders be invited for cutting through Che sandhills on Baxter's road, and for metalling 140 clicins of Main River road and 183 chains of South road, besides some smaller works in the township. It was resolved that application be made to the County Council for a aupply of Powell's poisoned grain for distribution. A petition was received for making a footpath on Robinson street, the consideration ef which was postponed. The New Zealand and Australian Land Compauy wrote, asking to have the names of W. Boag and J. Boag inserted on the ratepayers' roll for land purchased by them from the Company. This was agreed to on the usual conditions. Mr G. -McLean wrote that he had been overcharged for rates on his property. The Clerk wa« instructed to make enquiry. It was resolved that the scale of charges for sustenance of cattle at the pound be reduced by one-half for all cattle except entires, and that one month's notice be given to the poundkeeper.
