EAST CHRISTCHURCH v CANTERBURY COLLEGE.

These teams met on Saturday last, when fast Christchurch won a well contested game by 12 points (2 goals from tries and a 'try) to nothing. Mr W.. J. Cotterill was East Christchurch kicked off from ithe western goal, having the wind in their favour, and for some little time play was .'carried on in the College (Maroons , ) quarters. A dribble, headed by Morris, followed by a kick by Buchanan, relieved the TM'ttßure, and for a moment or two- the Yellows were called upon to defend their' stronghold, but the danger' was soon removed and further scrummaging in neutral territory ensued. The Yellows then invaded "their opponents , quarters again, and the maroons were twice forced down. Notwithstanding the good forward play of Monv, Alloo and Gray on behalf of the College, the Yellows continued to press, and after the former had been once more forced down A. Ebert got possession of tho ball from a scrummage and scored a tr} r , Spring easily converting. After the kick off the Maroons took the leather into the Yellows' quarters, and the former being swarded a free kick J. M. Marshall had a fruitless place at goal, East Christchurch "being forced. Aft-er this the play was fairly even until the call of half time. On changing ends a passing run by Spring and Page placed the College on the defensive, and a good piece of passing between Forbes, Spring, Page and Lee enabled the last named to all but score. Just afterwards Scrimshaw got over the line, hat the try was disallowed on account of the player named being offside. A lot of forward play in the College quarters followed, the Yellows repeatedly attacking, but the fine defence of Buchanan and J. M. Marshall prevented a score until Scrimshaw got the ball and ran into touch near the line, and on the ball being thrown out Sa*nuels got; possession and scored right under the goal, Spring kicking a goal from the place. Iveus kicked off for the College again, and the Maroon backs exhibited some capital passing and for a time pressed the Yellows, but the latter'a forwards worked the oval to neutral territory, and after several scrummage 3 had been fought out Scrimshaw got possession from a pass by Kge, and eluding the opposing backs scored in a good position, but Hobbs failed with his kick at goal. A little later Lee had a fruitless pot at goal and Page hail a shot at goal with a like result, the College being forced down in each instauce. After which forward play in neutral territory ensued until the call of time.
