MURDER OF A GRASSSEEDER.

MASTERTON, February 12.
A man named Dalton was found murdered at EkeUhuna at eight o'clock this morning, with his throat cut and another wound on the left side of his body. He was then alive, and the constable stitched up the wound, but deceased succumbed two hours later. Inspector Thomson has telegraphed to Detective Herbert at Pahiatua to proceed to investigate the case, which is surrounded with suspicious circumstances, and leaves himself for the district to-morrow. Dalton was a grass-seeder from Mangarue Valley. He came in yesterda} , with two mates, and was drinking. A quarrel took place about midnight, and he was found about eight o'clock with a wound several inches in length in his throat, and a scab in the back. The supposed murderers have left the district. Later. Two men, Harrison and White, were arrested this afternoon by Constable Roche on suspicion of having murdered Daltou. Both were in the company of the deceased last night. In the tent of the accused were found two knives. An inauest will be held to-morrow.
