CONCERT AT LYTTELTON.
i A concert in aid of the prize fund of the b Lyttelton district schools was given in the . Oddfellows' Hall, Lyttelton, on Thursday - night. There was an excellent attendance, the - hall being packed. Mr Q. Laurenjoa occupied , the chair. The following items were , rendered :—Vielin solo, Mr Biordan ; song, r " Marching," Mr G. E. Collins; song, " I'll take you home, Kathleen," Miss i, Wileon ; recitation, " Curfew «h*U not ring i to-nifht," Mr Eyre; eong, "The Longi shoreman, ,, Mr Halley (encored); song, t " Yesterday," Mrs Fitegerald ; pianoforte ;. solo, Miss Allwright; song, " Hope, the c Sailor's Anchor," Mr Borrows ; comic song, g " Musical Airs," Mr Anty (encored); violin c solo, " Ma«t«r Dale ; song, "I seek for thee g in every flower," Miss Hildyard ; song, " Simon the Cellarer," Mr Haliey ; pianoir forte deet, Miss and Master Parsons; " r«m? % Roses," Miss R. Hollis ; r . Banner," Mrs Gilmore ; ' aud I4r !G. E. Collins; song, " Queen of my :- Heart," Mr Borrows; recitation (comic), "Charge of the Light Brigade," Mr Brown ;, (encored) ; comic song, " McNamara's i, Baad," Mr W. J. Gilmore; duet, "My d Heart's Delight," Messrs Just and i. IfaWgyz During interval the Chairman sr referred to the splendid pass achieved 0 by the school at the last examination, iv 95 per cent., which was the best in the i- district. He said that both parents and s. children were greatly indebted to the Is teachers for the care and attention they had d bestowed upon their work. He hoped to •c see a good many of the children going in >, for higher education. He thanked the c audience for supporting the Committee in ■, their endeavours to augment the prize fund g by attending the concert in the way they had v done. The usual votes of thanks to all who c had assisted at the concert were proposed by >r the Rev. C. Coates and carried by acclamae tion. The gross amount realised by the c concert was £15 6s, which, after expenses 1 are paid, will leave a sum of about £12 with !- which to purchase prizes. n ——ma—
