KAIAPOI.
A fair amount of interest was taken in th« Kaiapoi Mayoral election yesterday. 0} recent yeara it has been the custom for th« temperance party to influence as far as the; can every election, and in this instance Mt Blitkeley was able to woo the voters of that party, because Mr Doubleday, the rival can* aidate, happened to hold office as President of the Working Men's Club. The Committees of both candidates had vehicle* employed to bring up the voters, and at the close of the poll Mr R. Chapman, Returning Officer, announced the result as follows :-* W. Doubleday. 109; R. Blakeley.; 86 1 informal, 1; and declared Mr W. duly elected. The total votee recorded wm 195, about thirty more than polled last yearBoth candidates returned thanks.
