FURTHER OPPRESSION IN RUSSIA.
(PSB PBSSS ASSOCIATION.) Received Mmj 19th. 11.30 &>m. Athsnb, May 18. The Government of Corfu is relieving the Jews. Fifty of the latter altogether were killed in the recent disturbances.
Berlin, May 18. Herr Bleichroder, an influential financier, believes that Russia must give a guarantee to keep the peace for three years. Neither he nor the Rothschilds will advance a penny till better conditions prevail than at present. Received May 20th. 1.30 a.m. Athens, May 18. The Government have voted a sum of 50,000 francs to be distributed among the Jews who are in destitute circumstances on the Island of Corfu. St. P-T-fiSBURQ, May 18. Officials have been ordered to collect statistics of the Jews in Russian provinces, with a view to the expulsion of those who are illegally residing there. A decree which has just been issued prohibits Jewish lawyers from pleading iv criminal cases in the Courts in Russia, aud also prevents them from appearing in civil cases in which the sum at stake exceeds a certain amount.
