SUMNER TOWN BOARD.

A special meeting of the above Board was held at the Town Board office on Tuesday evening, the 12th inst., to settle the annual balance-sheet. Present — Commissioners Wheeler (chairman), Monck, Gilchrist, Hayward, Mills and Tait. Commissioner Hayward apologised for the absence of Commissioner Kitson. The balance-sheet for the year ending March 31st, 1890, was submitted, the same having been audited by Mr King, Audit-Inspector, and found correct. Commissioner Mills moved, and Commissioner Hayward seconded, that the balance-sheet should be settled and signed by the Chairman. Carried. The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Board was then held. The Engineer's report was read and adopted. Commissioner Hayward asked if the Tram Company could have what material they required in the shape of clay and metal in shifting the present loop-line in Nayland street to the terminus beyond Head street. Question deferred. Resolved that the poundkeeper be notified that his engagement with the Board will terminate when Sumner ceases to be a town district. The Clerk was instructed to communicate with the police authorities as to the fees for collecting the dog tax. The Chairman reported that, in reply to a request from the Colonial Secretary, through Mr Salter, Solicitor, he had nominated Mr Crawford as Town Clerk, and Mr C. L. Wiggins as Ret*__*ning Officer to hold the first election of _»tayor and Councillors of the proposed borough. The Town Board office is the place, Saturday is day of the week for the election, and Tuesday for the first meeting of the Council Approved. Treasurer's statement;— Receipts since last meeting, £536 2s lid; payments since last meeting, £11 17s 3d ; Bank balance, £41 12s 6d; outstanding rates, -6255 3s Id. Accounts amounting to £27 12s 5d were passed for payment. The meeting then adjourned.
