[from our correspondent.] HAWERA RACECOURSE, May 13. There is fine weather, and an attendance of about 1000 people. The going is a little heavy. Following ai*e the results :— Hhan'dicap Hurdles. Christmas .. .. (Collelo) 1 Jupirer 2 Worth 3 Waterbury also ran. Jupiter and Waterbury led for a mile and a half, when Waterbury fell. Christmas then tackled Jupiter, and after a slashing set to won by a length. Time, 4min 31£ sec. Dividend £1 Is. Maiden Steeplechase, Sir Maurice .. (Fergus) 1 Whalebone 2 This was a close finish and was won by a neck. Whalebone jumped into the training track and lost fifty yards by doing so. Time, smin 27£ sec. Dividend, £117s. Hack Race. One and a half miles. Hiamoe .. .. (Lindsay) 1 Durus .. .. •• 2 Viola .. .. •• 3 Despised and Strike also ran. Durus led until the straight, when Hiamoe challenged her and won by a nose. Time, 2min 54sec. Dividend jBS 15s. Egmont Steeplechase. Takapan (Wells) 1 Dangerous .. .. .. •• •• 2 Kimberley and Walebone were scratched. This race was a chapter of accidents. Of the nine starters two only passed the post. The others all fell at different stages of the race. Takapau won by a length and a half. Time, 7min 57sec. Dividend, M 2s. Hack Rack. One mile. Dnrna .. ..
