The Durham County Justices committed Mr S. Storey, M,P. for Sunder]and, for trial oil a charge of perjury in connection with the Diksworth evictions. The Queen's Bench discharged Mr Storey, with costs against the Justices, on tho ground that they had no jurisdiction. ENGLAND AND PORTUGAL. The Daily Ifetos states that Lord Salisbury baa extended the term of modus vivendi with Portugal. CONGREGATIONAL UNION. Dr. Herbert Evans, of Carnarvon, has beeu elected Chairman of the Congregational Union. SIMS BEEVES' FAREWELL. There was an enormous attendance at the Albert Hall to bid farewell to Sims Reeves. Quite 7000 were present. Christina Neilson travelled-from Madrid specially to take part. THE STRAND ELECTION. Mr W. H. Smith was re-elected unopposed. THE AUSTRALIAN CRTJISERS. The cruiser Tauranga is further detained for tbe purpose of remedying the defects developed on the preliminary trips. Reoelved May 13th, 10.50 a.m. FOUNDERING OF A STEAMER. Washington, May 12. The steamer Lucky Low foundered off Vancouver and fifty-five of those on board were drowned. ALLEGED CORRUPTION. Ottawa, May 12. Longevin and Mageevy have been charged before the Committee of Privileges of the Dominion Parliament with corruption in connection with contracts. The latter is alleged to have received 700,000d015. Received May 13th, 10.40 o.m. THE NEW ORLEANS LYNCHING. Washington, May 12. The Italian Consul at New Orleans has been recalled is order to explain the course of events since the lynching. AMERICA AND SPAIN. A commercial Convention has been signed between the United States and Spain by which sugar and skins will be admitted into the former country free. THE O'SHEA CASE. The Queen's Proctor will not intervene in the O'Shea case. THE COLLYNS' FAILURE. The examination of Collyns, a bankrupt, showed the liabilities to be £96,000, and secured £52,000, assets £25,000. i NELLIE STEWART. Nellie Stewart, before aocepting an engagement at the Savoy, refused the principal part in the opera "La Basoche," to be produced at the Royal. GENERAL BOULANGER. Brussels, May 12. It is expected that Boulanger will be expelled from Belgium. Received May 13th, 11 a.m. THROWING A BOMB. Lisbon, May 12. Two women have been arrested for exploding a bomb in the office of the Minister of the Interior. RUSSIA AND THE JEWS. St. Petersburg, May 12. Baron Gunsberg, the Jewish Banker, has been expelled from the oity for offering a million roubles to the Minister of the Interior to influonoe the Czar in favor of the Jews. London, May 12, In a paper read at the Colonial Institute, Mr Howard Vincent, M.P., advocated a commercial union of the component parts of the British Empire.
