Business in the import market since our last report appeared has been of a quiet abaracier, ana but few transactions nave mussed which call for special notice. The deliveries of goods since the _sth ult. have been of a disappointing nature, and the trade are confining their purchases to the supplying of immediate requirements. Engagements falling due on the 4th were met with pleading promptitude. The Opawa has arrived from London, and brings a heavy cargo of £_ner_l merchandise, many lines of which should oome to a good market. The Wellington, which arrived in port on loth ult., bus not yet finished discharging, and this delay has caused some inoonvenieuce to eonslgnees. Sugars from Mauritius and Queensland are offering freely, _nd business being poshed at „uui __i lu_ to ___ _0_ ( f.b. A fair business litis passed iv teas. There is a marked demano for tbe lower grades of of Chinas. Regular trade aa.es have also passed in Ceylon, and Indians. Dried fruits ate without quotable thange. Ke_ler"s marmalade at 7s 3d. Vestas, 1000' aat from 635, 250*s 18a, have moderate sale.. Lea and Petrin's and Mellor's sauces sell in trade parcels. There is an improved enquiry for vinegar. Quotations lor certain lines of goods on this market are at present disturbed somewhat by a house which giving up this particular department of the bu—nass. Cornsacks are being delivered freely at 6* 6d to 6» 9d in farmers' parcels. In building _»aterials. galvanised iron dnll of sale at up to £22 10s. Belied and raw oil ordinary inquiry at 3s 8d aud 3s 6_ respectively. Bottleale and stout of best brands have met with steady sales. In spirits a limited business has passed, chiefly in Scotch .whiskeys at from 6s to 9s 6d i.b. J.D.K.Z. Geueva" meets with steady sales at regular rates. Port and sherry meet with a quiet demand. Licnejuice cordial, ginger wine, and clarets meet with steady trade sales.
