SHEEP FAIRS.

.PRESS association telegram.* AUCKLAND, February 5. At tbe annual sheep fair of Messrs Hunter and Nolan to-day, at Qreenlaue, about 4000 sheep were catalogued, and only about three lots were passed. The sale generally was one of the most successful held here for many years. The bidding was animated, and the prices realised were very satisfactory. Lincoln ewes ranged up to 17s and wethers 15s Sd, whilst crossbreds realised ]»ls 9d. Tbe highest priced ram was a Lincoln, bred by Mr Robt. Hall, One Tree Hill. It was bought tot Ml 103 by Mr S. C. The annual ram aud ewe fair was held at Hastings yesterday. A very large number was yarded, and tbe attendance of' buyers was large. The prices were higher than tor years past. For animals which were at all fancied there was keen competition. The top price was 75gs for a two shear-sheep from John Beid, Elderslie. other stud rams from the same breeder brought up to 50 guineas, the average of his 17 studs being 28J guineas. The Hon. *_. Holmes' 10 shearlings averaged 16J guineas, and Mr F. Sutton's (Southland) 15 averaged 19 guineas. Three hundred Eudaleigh ewes averaged 1_ guineas. Tho flock rams also brought excellent prices. All the long-wools were quitted, but merinos were neglected.
