FIRE AT AUCKLAND.

AUCKLAND, December 29

A fire occurred to-night at a three storey warehouse at the corner of Albert and Swanson streets, owned by the New Zea land Loan and Mercantile Agency Com pany, and previously occupied as a bond store. The outbreak took plaoe in the midst of a large quantity of flax, about thirty tone in the middle storey. The flax was to have been shipped by the Lurline to-day for Boston, but there was no room for it on the ship. Ifc was considerably destroyed, and some general'merchandise in the same storey was also injured, whilst about 150 bales of wool in the storey beneath was partially damaged by water. The extent of damage can scarcely be ascertained at present. The flax belonged to Messrs Carr, Johnston and Co., and was insured in the South British office for .£BOO. The wool, which ia owned by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company, is insured for £600 by the New Zealand Insurance Company* who, have also a risk of £500 on the contents of the store, whilst Butcher and Co. have a policy of JB3OO in the -Sun on certain goods which they own in. the store. The building itself is not damaged.
