No name stands so prominently, forward to-day in the world of athletes &» tnat of W. 6. Grace, the cricketer, tbeleader/ac&e princeps ■■ amongst batsmen. < It will be remembered that he captained the third English team visiting Australia in 1873-4, and his play then'was fully in accordance with his great reputation. He tats been a staunch supporter-of his county, Gloucestershire, and for neaxlv a quarter of -a. century had been identified with English cricket. Thrice has he headed the batting averages against the Australian team — viz., against the second, with an average of 56-6; against the fifth, with an average of 42-7; and against the sixth, in representative matches, with an average of 31*1. As a bowler also, W. 6. is not to be despised. Mr Grace writes in an. easy and interesting style, and his contribution an the history of cricket cannot fail to be accept- \ able 6o oar readers.
