The monthly meetinpt of the Geraldlot County Council took place yesterday, A long discussion took place on bridges. Tbe Orarl bridge requires re-decking, and It was stated that the work woula cost £1200. Mr Stowell said he had come to move—"That the alteration of the Patreora bridge into a stock bridge be gone Oα with at once." Ho felt it hie dutj to take this step, as he had been niO9t prominent Iα making, the proposition respecting the alteration." As to theOrarl bridge, action was deferred on the suggestion of Mr Moore till next; election, when the question of rating for maintenance ol the bridges may be submitted to the rale* payers. Just before the Council adjourned for lunch a letter was received from Messrs Ferry and Perry informing the Council thai they bad that day instituted proceedlttga in the Supreme Court at the suit of-nf David Stowell, on behalf of himself and the ratepayers of the Wai mate county, and Mr Donald Monro, on behalf of hiaiself and the ratepayers of the Geral&lne county, against the Council, requiring them forthwith to take ail necessary steps for the purpose of re-establishing tae Lower Pareora bridge in as full and complete a manner as it existed prior to the bridge being allowed to fall into disrepair, by an order that the Council repair the said bridge and maintain It Iα proper coa, dition for general traffic.
