THE FLOODS AT BOURKE
THE RIVER STILL RISING.
[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Received April 16th. 1.15 p.m. Stdnbt, April 16. The topic of the hour is the situation at Bourke. The Darling is still rising, and the crisis is expected tonight cr to-morrow. It is thought the town will be safe if the embankment holds. The emergency entails unceasing watchfulness, as the line of earthworks is three miles in length. Nearly £7000 has been spent on the embankment. Fortunately the weather is beautifully fine. The women and children, laden with all their worldly goods, are leaving by every train. The loss of stock is enormous. On many stations not a single head ia left alive.
