ST. JOHN AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION.

A meeting of the Committee of St John Ambulance Association was held at the City Council Library, at 3.15 p.m. yesterday, when there were present---Sis Worship the Mayor (in the chair), Mesdames Peacock, Gibb, Louisson, ■ Kinsey and Hacon, and Misses Boys, A. Pheney, T. Bowron, the Very Rev/the Dean, Rev. T. Flavell, Captain Garsia, and Messrs C. Louisson and S. D. Darker* Hon., Sec. Dr. De Renzi was also present. , ! The Secretary reported that with all incidental expenses connected with importing, &c., a horse ambulance car would cost £120. A local coach builder had given an estimate of £30 for one. The'matter stood over.

The Secretary also* stated he had medallions in hand for several successful candidates.

A letter was read from Mrs Webb and four other ladies, suggesting modified conditions under which the proposed nursing corps might be established, <and suggesting that a meeting of ladies should be called to consider the matter.

Dr. De Renzi was in favor Of a Nurses' Association being starred, as he had frequent applications made for nurses to be sent out from the Hospital. The medical men would require that the, nurses had a certain amount of practical experience. The nurses could be sent to poor people free of charge, and those who could afford it could pay for the services of the nurses. He did:not think the system of honorary nurses -would work at present. He thought it probable that probationers would be admitted to the Hospital, where they would gain the necessary experience. It was resolved to act upon Mrs Webb's suggestion, and call a meeting of ladies at a date to be decided on. The Sbc«btary said the credit balance of the Association was upwards of £40. MrsFJavell was elected a member of the Committee^ Dr. Dbßenzi brought forward the question of appointing two examiners for each class, as the work was too heavy for one. The Secretary was instructed co communicate with the examiners appointed and ascertain their views, and report to next meeting. ....... Mrs Gibbs suggested that the marks gained by each candidate should not be published. " ' ' _ _. It was agreed that the suggestion be brought under the notice of the examiners. Mr Louisson said that as the Very Rev. the Dean, who was a prominent member of the Committee, was going to England on a trip, they should wish him a pleasant yovage and a safe return to his useful duties. (Applause.) .. ' The Dean returned thanks, and expressed the hope that he might be able to do some good for the Association. Tbe meeting then terminated.
