CANTERBURY YACHT CLUB.
That important factor In the success of a sailing race—the weather—was all that could be desired on Saturday afternoon, when the second heat for the Commodore's Cuo was contested. There was a steady N.B. breeze to temper the heat, and the water was fairly smooth. The race was a very good one throughout, and the Pastime showed again to the fore, coming in first by 38min, she having covered the course, which was the same as on the first day, in 2h 18min, The fpuß points for the first placed boat were gained by the Taniwha on the time allowance, and the Pastime had to take second-place. The following are the handicaps compared with those of the last races (the lattea being given in parenthesis), and it wtlljbp seen that some big allowances have been made:—Pastime, scr (ecr); Little Wonder, 12min (2min>; Fleetwing, 16mm Jeer); Go wan, 27tnin <12mln); Crest, 90min (15min); Neva, 22min (6min); Myrtle, 35min (Bmin); Lydd, 40min (omixtf) Tanlwha, 42min (lOmln). The hand!, capping may be said to be good, as the closeness of the times at the finish showed. Neither the Lydd nor , tbe Gowan started, and the Myrtle, Fleetwing and Crest gave up. The only boats that covered the course were the Pastime. Little Wonder, Neva and Taniwha, ana they finished in the order placed. The points scored were:—Taniwha 4, Pastime 2, Neva 1. The result of the first and second heats in points scored by the boats is as follows:—Pastime 6, Taniwha L Neva 1, Little Wonder 2, Crest 1. Tfc» final heat comes off on Saturday week, "tb Is very evident from the last two dayf racing that no boat in Lyttelton at present can keep pace with the Pastime. On the 16th December, when the Akaroa yacht Mahanga meets her in Akaroa she will be in company with a boat of her own cJhtts, and the race of that day and the one Iα Lyttelton on January Ist are now being looked forward to by yachtsmen wita interest.
