I have stopped dr:ving north for the present as I cannot get the dirt up with the present hauling power. Fifty six feet of stoping has been done for the week north and south. The reef in the north stope i 3 small but carrying very good gold. In the south stopes the reef is from 20in to 2ft 3in wide, gold showing freely in each face. I have started to sink on the new reef from the bottom of the rise; the winze is down 10ft, and the stove is st't wide carrying highly payable prospects." Star—The mine manager reports : —" The tram has not been working very well. I took six buckets off the line and it is now running much better. Inside the mine I have four men stoping. The stone varies in size from 6in to 18in, and shows very fair prospects. There are from ninety to 100 tons of stone in the lower paddock. We shall get a fair start next week to put more men on to the stopes. The contractors for driving the level started on Monday, and have driven 12ft on the track of a reef, which started from lin wide, and now is 18in, mixed up with quartz and mullock. I think we shall come across the reef soon by the look of the country." Golden Treasure—The mine manager reports:—"During the week stoping has been continued south of the rise. The reef averages 3ft, showing good gold. We have opened north of the rise, and are now in 13ft from the rise. The reef shows the same size and quality as mentioned before. We have also driven the bottom level a distance of 6ft for the week. The drive wae stopped for a few days pending the survey being finished. I have since started, and have made 6ft, still leaving about 6ft more to go. The battery has been running on shift ten hours." .New Britannia—The mine manager reports that the tunnel is now in 60ft; a few feet further will bring him up to the supposed line of the reef. Progress—There is no word in yet as to the prospects of the crushing, but it is said there have been several stoppages since the J machinery was started. Just-in-Tiine.— Work of a prospecting character is being carried on in the lower part of the mine, but it is too soon yet to look for any result from it. [ United Alpine (Lyell) — The mine manager reports that during the week No. 7 level has been extended a distance of 22ft. There is no change in the country, which is still black slaty rock. The contractors for sinking the winze are making good headway with the cutting out of the chamber, and will be ready to start sinking at the beginning of next week. Sir Francis Drake—The mine manager reports : —" Since the Directors visited the mine I put in a set of timber in the north end and tried the stone on the east side of the tunnel, and found it so good I commenced on Friday, with two men, to make ready to start the winze. The coal tunnel is now in 25ft, the seam of coal being about the same as at last report." Scotia—The mine manager reports : — " Since my last the main level has been driven 10ft, which makes the main lev-el 3ft under the north winze. The distance of the main [level north of the winze to date is 35Sft. The reef in the face of the main level at present is from 10in to 12in wide, and fair gold is to be seen in the stone. The south level has been driven sft. The reef is from lft thick, and carries fair gold. No. 1 stope is now 100 ft over the main level, No. 3 stope 55ft, and | No. 3 stope 30ft, with a fair reef in all the stopes and as good gold in the stone as any I have seen in the mine since taking charge, and the reef still going up over the top of the third stope. I have been trucking stone to the battery, and everything is ready for starting crushing on Sunday night."

Hard to Find—The mine manager reports : —" Since my last we have driven the level a further distance of 54ffc. During a portion of the week we weie engaged timbering the drive to the face. I have still got 4ft to do before I am under the winze. At the present time there is a well defined reef in the face of about lft, and showing fair gold."
