The monthly meeting was held on July Ist. Present—Messrs R. Evans (Chairman), Chapman, Hopkins, Milne and Pashby. The Surveyor s report was read and adopted. Letters were read—From Mr F. G. Stednjan, Registrar of Canterbury College, requesting the Board to improve Guild's drain road up to Reserve No. 396. Mr Hopkins proposed, and Mr Milne seconded —" That the road be shingled with 15 yards to the chain." Carried. From the Mandeville and Rangiora River Board, requesting the Board to do away with the present culvert ou Thompson's road leading into the main drain, and put in another crossing the road at the Flaxton bridge to accommodate the water from Threlkeld'e road drain. Mr Threlkeld and Mr McGregor attended to support the request. Mr McGregor offered on behalf of Mr Pearson (his landlord) to contribute £3 towards the cost, and Mr Threlkeld also offered to contribute £5. It was resolved that the Chairman of the Eyreton Board wait on the River Board at its next meeting to arrange to carry out the proposed work at the joint cost of the two Boards. From Mr W. Shepherd, requesting the Board to pay the balance of hie tender for cleaning Jeff's road drain. Agreed to. From Mr W. H. Herbert, Master of the Clarkeville School, stating the road was flooded by the late rain on. account of the pipes being too small. It was resolved . that the pipes be taken out, and a ford made. From the Colonial Treasurer, advising payment of 7s 6d, slaughter-house fees to March 31st, 1889. District Land Registrar, giving notice of Mr P. C. Threlkeld's application to bring part of R.S. No. 1114 under the Land Transfer Act, 1885. Clothier Brothers, stating they had erected an embankment and cleared to m&ke room for the Eyre flood water at a total cost of £22, and requested the Board to defray part .of the cost. Resolved that £10 be paid, and wire for the new fence in place of any other fence, which would not obstruct the flood water. A petition was received from Mr R. C. Dixon and other ratepayers requesting the Board not to proceed with the formation of Burgess's road, and to open up ♦Edmonds' road. Mr Holland requested the Board to assist him to build a footbridge over the river at Giles' ford. Mr Holland was requested to furnish further particulars of what he required at next meeting, when his application would be considered. Mr Peak applied for the transfer of Mr Elkins' lease to himself, and was informed that legal advice would be taken as to what coarse the Board should pursue in the matter. Mr Armstrong asked the Board what assistance the Board would give towards clearing the gorse and broom off reserve No. 372 rented by him. He was informed the Board would allow £12 off his rent for clearing the same from the girder bridge to the second willow above the cutting, and back to his present fence, and further the Board would clear a strip up to Hassall's ford, provided he agreed in writing to keep the same clean in future. Mr Pashby proposed, and Mr Hopkins seconded—"That notice be given that ageneral rate of three farthings in the £ will be made and levied on the rateable property of the Eyreton Road Board District for the year commencing April Ist, 1889, and ending March 31st, 1890, such rate to be due and payable in one sum at the Eyreton Road Board Office on August 14th, 1889." Mr Milne proposed, and Mr Chapman seconded —" That notice be given that a special rate of $th of a penny in the £ will be made and levied on the rateable property of the Eyreton Road Board district for the destruction of small birds for the year commencing April Ist, 1889, and ending March 31st, 1890, such rate to be due and payable in one sum at the Eyreton Road Board Office on August 14th, 1889." The Surveyor was directed to invite tenders for spreading the materials thrown out of Wood's road drain, and to remove the spit in the river between the girder bridge and the main drain. Accounts amounting to £98 2s 3d were passed and ordered to be paid. The following tenders were accepted—Clearing at girder bridge, Richards and French, £14 18s; forming Burgess road, T. White, 6s Hid per chain; trimming Mill road, Richards and French, Is 6a per chain; levelling South Eyre road, H. W. Vltter, 3s 6d per chain; Tram road drain, A. Wragg, 5s 3d per chain. ————^^—^^—*
