CORRESPONDENCE.

THE CATHEDRAL. to the editor of the press. Sir,—lt appears, as matters stand at present, that the Cathedral is not in a very flourishing state, and when the whys and wherefores are summed up, little wonder. It has long been apparent to most people in the habit of attending the Cathedral that the introduction of new blood was much needed. In place of the dry ash sermons proceeding from the pulpit in a sing-song monotonous tone, we want something more modern and broader in view, with preachers of power and elocution. This is proved by the general clearout as the time approaches for the sermon under present arrangements, aud comparing the attendance when the Bishop of Nelson preached recently. Until something in this direction isdoue, the Cathedral will be a failure both spiritually and financially. Thanking you for insertion— I am, yours, &c, Churchman.
