PROPOSED NEW MAIL SERVICE.

AUCKLAND, July 6,
The French Colonial Department at Tahiti propose to establish a mail service between Tahiti and Honolulu via Apia to connect with the San Francisco service at the Hawaian Islands.
It is stated that the ooject of this service is to establish with America, via Samoa, more direct communication and to foster the transmission of mails and passengers to San Francisco, and that if it is established a great (portion of the Tahitian trade may be taken from New Zealand.
